السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته وسلام على المرسلين والحمد لله رب العالمين أما بعد

A couple of days ago someone mentioned starting a thread for learning Arabic, I thought it was a good idea so here it is. My thought is that we can share resources and ask each other questions about the language.

I'll start off with two great resources that'll take you quite far. They're aimed at someone who knows the Arabic script but not anything else. After these you should be at a level where you can start studying Arabic in Arabic.

1. Madinah series, which is used at the Islamic University in Madinah and very beginner friendly(as said above you just need to know the alphabet). It consists of three textbooks in Arabic, along with three in English explaining the grammar of each lesson, and an answer key. There's also a lot of complementary material in form of grammar summaries etc. Everything can be found for free(no copyright) at

lqtoronto.com

2. Simplified Arabic by Arthur Upson. Another great book available free(copyright expired). It's layed out in terms of 200 chapters each accompinied by translation excercies with answer keys. Ideal for self studying. It can be found at http://archive.org/details/arabicsimplified00upsouoft

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

This board is the 8chan Masjid and should be treated as such. It is a place for Muslims to gather and discuss Islam and not intended as a place where Muslims must defend themselves or their religion from outsiders. If you would not do it in a real mosque in the real world, then don't do it here.

Controversial topics of discussion are permitted, but deliberate trolling/baiting and personal attacks will not be tolerated. /pol/-like behavior can stay on /pol/.

ATTACK THE ARGUMENT, NOT THE POSTER

For the purposes of this board, and until otherwise proven absolutely haram, tasteful non-lewd images of people, nature, and animals will be allowed.

We are not for the comparison of the various world's religions. There are many, many other boards for that. Use them.

We need to take steps to ensure our privacy. Do not let them pull the "if you've got nothing to hide" card; that's like saying we don't need freedom of speech because "I have nothing to say." I have nothing to hide. I am not a terrorist nor am I interested in helping terrorists, but my emails and such are mine and I refuse to lay down and let the government walk all over my freedoms. So, if they want to exploit me, I'll make them work for it. So should you.

im sure you know full well the rulings in Islam when it comes to interactions between men and women. Both genders are ordered to lower their gaze and commanded to stay away from that which can lead to haram, and when interacting with each other they should do it for necessary reasons, modestly and within the Islamic boundaries

that telegram group has men and women openly "bantering" with each other, and they're obviously not going to be lowering their gazes there. it's best to keep such groups gender segregated to avoid any feelings of desire from taking place, which may lead to sin (which it does on many occasions online)

I'm fully aware that wahabbi salafi idiots think men and women should never meet each other until it's baby time; but Islam - and Qur'an - puts men and women together. Talking to each other and sharing time together and getting to know each other is not the same as "grabbing and f*cking each other as soon as eyes meet!"

You Orthodox need to calm down or no Muslim babies will ever be born. A woman can talk to a man without her father present. Prove me wrong.

Hey guys

I used to be a Christian. I grew up a Pentecostal. The ones with the snake handlers and all that. Not very religious anymore but I love reading about other religions. They fascinate me. Even Christianity does sometimes still.

I found a post on Facebook about the God Muslims worship actually being a lunar deity named hubal.

Now. After some extensive reading on the subject I am aware of the fact Muslims deny this allegation. And I am in no way trying to say it’s true. I know that Muhammad had idols in Mecca destroyed when he invaded and conquered the city.

Due to how sometimes record keeping and misinterpretation happens. From a non biased and objective viewpoint only for debate.

Could this be possible? For instance how Christianity adopted MANY pagan holidays and customs from its domination of Europe? Just food for thought. Not here to cause a fuss. I am curious on what a Muslim would have to say about this.

No it's not possible. See for example: http://www.islamic-awareness.org/quran/sources/allah/hubal

As for your picture it's not even confirmed to be a deity, let alone proven in the slightest way to be a representation of Allah. That's not going to stop missionaries from claiming it though. Funnily enough I came across a christian missionary website dedicated to get christian Arabs to stop worshipping the stone-man carved in Arabia from your picture and instead start worshipping the stone-man carved in america.

I think you should read the Qur'an if you're interested in Islam.

Reading posts on facebook isn't really "reading" about relgions, after all.

>Could this be possible?

God being a lunar deity?

No.

If you'd read the Qur'an you'd understand that our God is one. And he's the creator of everything, not limited in any way whatsoever.

If he'd be a lunar deity he'd be limited and not the creator of everything, so there is simply no way.

>For instance how Christianity adopted MANY pagan holidays and customs from its domination of Europe?

I would argue that pagan Europe adopted many Christian customs and holidays while still staying pagan.

>Just food for thought. Not here to cause a fuss.

The problem with this statement is that's it's rather obvious that you know very little about Islam. If you were actually interested in learning more about it you'd read the Qur'an instead of posting on an alt-r— boomer q-anon forum.

I'm not saying that it's bad to come here, but I feel like our generation has to learn to "**** up and read".

Alrgerian here. North Africa isn't necessarily better than the US. I mean there are mosques everywhere, the call to prayer, etc. but there's also way more corruption than in the US. Criminality can also be higher than in some parts of the US.

According to the four sunni madahab it is halal to take interest on fiat currencies. These currencies are intentionally devalued by governments every year so in many cases it is required to be paid interest just to break even or lose less value. Holding fiat currency and refusing to take interest on it is the same as paying a tax/fee to the government for the privilege of holding their fiat currency which is stupid and shameful.

There is no basis in Islamic scholarship for calling this kind of interest as riba and too many muslims are ignorant about this matter or use it as a justification to stay poor.

And yes personally I would like to return to Gold standard and then yes interest with a gold backed currency is riba and clearly haram.

Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread:

Post all such questions here. I'll start with a few of my own.

As a non-Muslim (non-religious period) I wonder about the notion that God (Allah) "wants" things from us. "Wanting" to me feels like it implies a kind of inferior state, as though one was lacking something. Does Allah "want" things from mankind? To follow certain rules perhaps? Or is it not a matter of "wanting" but something else?

>Tafhim-ul-Quran

Bringing understanding of Qur'an into modern sensibilities is essential to the growth of the deen. There are millions of people out there who desire closeness with God, but are turned away from God's religion by those who say, "Believe this 7th century merchant … OR ELSE!" I believe the Tafhim is important to helping modern men and women understand WHY they need to follow the teachings of Qur'an rather than just the "because I say so" approach used by so many these days.

By the way, do you know why in the anime and manga draw sharp chins and mark the nose with such strokes? By special devices geisha and eytaro (homosexual prostitutes) sharpened his chins and lifted the upper eyelid. Disney, of course, also played a role for the anime, but the manga grew on indecent images about geisha and eutaro, and this laid the rules for drawing in this industry.

The defeatists should fear Allah lest they distort this religion and cause it to become weak on the basis of the claim that it is a religion of peace. Yes, it is the religion of peace but in the sense of saving all of mankind from worshiping anything other than Allah and submitting all of mankind to the rule of Allah.

I have a copy of Syed Qutb’s tafsir of Juz Amma and I have shamefully not read it. I’m going to not say anything about this man until I read some of his writing.

I don't think it's good thing to insult supposed Christians. Plus I've met enough brothers who hold such views not to be surprised; we have many people like them among us. They don't even hide or anything.

Since I decided to learn Warsh, I've been using Al Husary whenever possible. His pronunciation is great and it helped me a lot.

What principles cause the Malakis to interpret the evidence as indicating that the saliva of a dog is not necessarily impure in and of itself? Alternatively what is it about the evidence that causes Hanafis and Shafiis to disagree when there is nothing explicitly indicating their opinion despite all modern schools accepting qiyas to my knowledge?

Literally just qiyas, dhahiris also don't consider the saliva of dogs to be najis.

So what you're saying is that the analogies the rulings were founded on are different?

Abu Hurayrah RA said: The Messenger of Allaah PBUH said: “The purification of the vessel of one of you, if a dog licks it, is to wash it seven times, the first time with soil.” [Sahih Muslim 279]

‘Abd-Allaah ibn al-Mughaffal said: The Messenger of Allaah PBUH said: “If a dog licks the vessel of one of you, let him wash it seven times and rub it with soil the eighth time.” [Sahih Muslim 280]

These hadith have to do with a vessel that a person would eat or drink from afterwards. To say that the saliva of dogs is najis and not just something that is harmful for humans to indirectly injest is subject to different interpretations.

I'll keep this short. I'm a Protestant Christian and I'm wanting to start to convert to Shia Islam starting when the years turns to 2020. Anything I should know or read up on before I start this?

pic unrelated.

Why wait? You know about Islam, your desire to convert means you accept Islam, so why wait? If you die tomorrow, you'll be asked why you hesitated and you can't claim ignorance. Go to a mosque, declare your faith, read Qur'an. Now.
