It would be easy to vamp most of those (and the STO timeline Klingon's are fixed, have someone take the chancellorship by force who has brass balls and the will to use them). Honestly the dominion is just as big a threat as ever (they managed to force the changelings to diversify their planetary holdings). And it would be easy to turn the borg scary again

>captain whoever is intrigued when a borg queen (make this one a dude, borg King) invites star fleet onto a cube. The ship sits three days to reveal that it's an almost empty cube with it's weapons, and nanites intentionally burned out .

>The captain finally goes over as requested. They find the king and his single manservant) sitting at a table (borg table think techblack) and he waves

>The king is gregarious and welcomes everyone making nonchalant small talk and so on until the captain finally frustrated asks

>WHAT DO YOU WANT

>The King stops, his fun obviously ruined "So impatient, well I guess we are here for an important work after all.

>We are the Borg. The king says, we have been beaten, You have made damn fools outs of us across three sectors of space. We still don't know how you really got out to the Delta Quadrant you know that?

>the table seems stunned and the king Continues.

>I surrender, the individuals of the borg surrender. Our culture such as it was , your individuality was adapted to serve us. And it failed miserably. Assimilations are down 37 percent. The collective has finally decided to put the Locutus project to bed.

>The table begins reaching for phasers which they find disabled by growing nanite counts

>So I surrender, myself back to the cube the king says. He begins twitching, trying to smile as parts of his personality are violently overridden in a convulsive manner.

>We Won't be a minute he slurs.

>The team manages to barely beam out as the King shows up iPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Making the Borg scary again so soon after VOY is basically like saying they should just have had the Empire not be defeated after RotJ. It undermines the achievements of the previous generation of heroes. It could definitely have been done with some competent writing though. I always expected all of these civilisations to rebuild, it just needed to be shown.

>borg queen

Ditch the queen concept entirely. It was a bad idea that came about because the writers were too lazy to write a baddie that didn't have a "face" and it ruined the whole fucking point. Say it was a failed experiment in creating a "user interface" for a civilization the borg once encounter that was too strong to be taken by force but was found to be possibly open to voluntary assimilation with a little coaxing. So Borg searched through the minds currently plugged in, found one with a strong diplomatic ability, then upgraded it and allowed a measure of autonomy while still directly connected to the collective in order to properly interact with the species on the Collective's behalf, but this went horribly wrong as once given some level of independence, the personalty was actually able to dominate the rest of the collective through force of will and set itself up as the queen instead of just a spokesperson. You could even establish that was why Huge and his "corrupted" borg were rejected. The queen recognized him as a threat that might do exactly what she did ages ago, so she ditched the whole infection before it could spread further.

And anyway to reintroduce the borg and make it clear that weakness has now been purged in part thanks to the federation's meddling and the collective is now a unified being again and the collective has taken more extreme measures to prevent drones from developing individuality or overriding the collective.

Why did they have to make Picard a limp wristed passive shell. If the Federation was the machine of injustice it is portrayed to be, then the Picard of TNG would be the first to challenge this.

>>33512

>It's a STAR empire. Losing their homeworld would have no impact on the Rumulan society since they would have centuries to prepare and find a new home in another system.

It may not affect the people on the fringes of the Star Empire but it would affect the people closer, depending on how centralised the government was.

Not to mention the psychological aspect of losing one's homeworld.

I see them having a fleet based capital similar to the Rock of the Dark Angels with a capital ship being formed around a large, hollowed out vestige of their home planet.

>>33581

>Ditch the queen concept entirely. It was a bad idea that came about because the writers were too lazy to write a baddie that didn't have a "face" and it ruined the whole fucking point.

I second this. I would like the Borg to be like the creatures in the film Virus (1999) where the flesh is seen purely as another machine component and the real enemy is sentient software.

We can tell by how the Romulans operate that is a very centralized empire.

It shouldn't be so centralized, but it is, and that's not just a Romulan oversight, it's something that comes up in Star Trek as well as other science fiction a lot. Then again I can understand why the planet on which your people originated would play a central role. As far as TV goes, Andromeda is the only series off the top of my head that featured primarily humans, but cast Earth as a backwater world. The Expanse also does this in later novels, but Earth hasn't been ruined on the show, yet.

I never got the chance to really watch DS9 i remember like 5 episodes I watched these where:

<The one with the gambling aliens who teleport the officers into a game

<The planet of the warriors who fight and never die

<Lots of Ferengi episodes

<The holodeck episode where Sisko as a fictional James Bond like character gambles to prevent his death (the safeties where of) and talked to this James Bond like villain that he is on his sides and preses the button on his dooms day weapon to destroy the (fictional holodect) world. This pauses the villain and the rest of the crew has time to rescue Sisko

<The trip to Risa episode

<Some dominion episodes

So I decided to watch it from start to finish.

I was thinking S1 will be boring like watching paint dry.

There are some crazy episodes in S1 however its a handful of good episodes between mediocre ones.

I'm in S2 and the mix is some hood between loads of pointless and even boring ones.

Why are there so many episodes that are simply boring or uneventful.

02x10 Sanctuary

looks ok and is entertaining to watch however what even was the point of this episode?

Some aliens show up, they can not be understood by the universal translator (this could be a great idea for a episode however the translator translates them on its own = waisted opportunity).

The aliens are different.

These aliens are nasty.

They delude themselves based on some stupid old prophesy that Bajor is their homeland or place to go or something.

They want to go to Bajor.

Bajorans say NO.

one kid steals a shuttle or something for a unknown reason the shuttle has some defects and he explodes himself over Bajor on accidence.

The episode ends.

Rom was tolerable around the middle of the show, when he was the talented but autistic engineer that acted as Quark's hapless accomplice. It was only later that he turned into the writer's mouthpiece for the leftist agenda.

Well how would you fix this? I guess the most ferengi way is that there is always a tension between legal activity and illegal activity. So occassionally you get faggot nagus's and everyone basically goes yeah that's great and nothing changes outside of what's in the capital city until the blackmarkets align behind someone dealing in sizable chunks of money who basically makes them the 'darknegus'. Then things conspire (or maybe the darknegus just buys the position?. I kind of like the idea that yeah occasionally ferenginar goes thru periods of 'otherworld mania' until the greed takes over again.

Hi! I used to post on the old infinitychan /strek/ board before the site shut down and didn't know it came back! It was swell to post on the only non-leftist Star Trek community probably ever.

Anyway, hopefully you won't mind my self-promotion, but I've been making review/analysis vids of each episode of Star Trek: Picard, replete with the nerdy perspective of someone who grew up with Trek and occasional jokes along the way. I just uploaded the one for episode 4 yesterday. I was hoping you guys might enjoy it or let me know what you think. I'm still pretty new at this!

There's an interview/AMA with Chabon where he suggests the mega-super-a-million-times-infinity-plus-one-no-backsies synths may have devolved over the aeons and might well be thick as pig shit now.

So there's an easy answer. Such a talented writer.

"Nuh-uhh! I'm not stupid, you are, and so are these galaxy killing bad guys wot I wrote!"

Is there much known about how it's performed with audiences? I can imagine the luvvie clique of reviewers have been giving it full marks down the line, but I guess it'll be down to the profitability whether they'll take notice about what people who care about not ruining Star Trek think. Wikipedia's only bit about viewership references January; considering it's been slower than a Pakled since that first episode, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a big drop off along the way. Of course, remedying that will just resort in more ADHD Kelvinverse style stuff with these clowns in charge rather than an acceptable plot.

>>33589

>There's an interview/AMA with Chabon where he suggests the mega-super-a-million-times-infinity-plus-one-no-backsies synths may have devolved over the aeons and might well be thick as pig shit now.

Not unlike the idea that led Brannon Braga to write Threshold. I know this is an insubstantial handwave, but it's actually unusually stupid, as while you could imagine cataclysm befalling humans that could set things back as both information and technology are lost (as Einstein purportedly said 'I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones'), synths shouldn't have the issue of losing information or expertise as it's all stored within themselves with perfect recall. Someone getting to them first with a virus leaving them as angry lobotomised thrashing Matrix millipedes might make more sense I guess, but it shouldn't need headcanon leaps as big as this to fix their stupid plot anyway.

Do you have the link to that AMA at all? I've done a quick search but haven't found anything. I haven't actually seen much about this show from the creators at all, only a couple of clips in those Major Grin vids (I've carefully avoided outside material in general so I've been able to make my reviews while uninfluenced by anything else, and then by the time they've been done the next episode has quickly followed). I'd be interested to see how they present it.

> Who even knows, after 200,000 years, if they’re still “advanced”? Maybe they’ve devolved.

And yeah, I was thinking of ST:Continues as it's, dodgy acting aside, pretty good Manages to nail the TOS feel very well in direct opposition to the way that ST:Picard fail to match TNG, or anything Trek. Plus, nobody seems to have done any reviews of them like they do for the official productions.

Thanks for that link! He doesn't seem like a particularly likeable guy there, does he. Of course, maybe I can't help being influenced in that perception by the fact he wrote Star Trek: Picard. One thing that catches my eye is the question ahout the lifting of the ban on synths, as though this is obviously a good thing to do and synths didn't genuinely come within a hair's breadth of galactic genocide. The story they came up with really strains against what it wants to portray as good or Orange Man, it seems to me.

I should give Continues a closer look I think; I've seen a bit but not the whole thing. I did like that transition into the Motion Picture era at the end of the last episode, with the old Enterprise arriving into the spacedock from then, and also the Enterprise mission patch being made that for all of Starfleet at that point. There's a lot more concern for fidelity to the source material there than in anything produced officially post-2005. I think that's why the Axanar thing appealed too, seeing these actors in the Cage-era uniforms. That's helped by just being stupendously good in its own right though, of course.

If you could live on a planet in the Star Trek universe which one would you pick. I think I'd pick Betazed. I'd stare the beautiful betazoid females right in the eyes and think of the unspeakable things that I'd do to them during sex. Pretty sure I'd hook up quickly. If a guy read my mind I'd think "Lol, u gay?"

Also hanging around Betazed insane asylums would be entertaining. I'd rile these folks up with my weird thoughts and make them riot.

See title. Now I know Voyager is often overshadowed by the other series, notably DS9 and TNG, but it still beats Discovery by a long shot.

Anyone else think that the writers shouldn't have had the Vidiians obtain a cure to the phage? IMO they should have set them up to attempt to invade Qo'nos in the alpha quadrant after discovering that Klingons have immunity to the phage. Voyager would have to take responsibly of accidentally introducing the Klingons to the Vidiians (the latter who are infamous for their organ-harvesting practices). It could be neat to watch the Klingons face the threat of having their entire race harvested in a similar way in which the Borg attempted to assimilate Earth.

I like both but ENT is great, whereas VOY relies on a handful of great episodes over a 7 season run. It's not even close for me really.

Years later I'm still pissed that ENT was cancelled to soon. It would have been nice to see Earth and Romulus trying to nuke each other with big warp-capable cruise missiles.

A little something I have been meaning to take a note of for the longest time and that is the role of democracy in Trek. In particular how various races elect their leaders or people into leadership positions.

It is implied heavily that the Romulans have Senators that are elected but how or who they are elected by remains unclear.

The Cardassians could have something similar with their Detapa council but nothing is quite established.

The Klingons while ran by a High Council do have some semblance of an electoral process if only if it is a contest to show who is most fit to lead the Council.

About the only faction we see that does not has a clear established Democratic process is the Federation.

>But anon, le President and the council!

Yeah but it appears to be made up of heredity members that are clearly unelected. There also seems to be no reference to elections in the Federation at all with Presidents seemingly chosen at random. You'd think that such an important matter would be a plot point of a single episode but nothing is ever said on the subject matter.

So if I were to make a summary of my observations; Democracy does not exist in the Star Trek universe. Advancement only by sheer merit or heredity status exists.

It bothers me that we've seen the President and Federation Council a few times, but never the United Earth Prime Minister and Senate etc.

Although part of the UFP, the UE does still exist as the sovereign one world government for Earth, right?

Almost certainly, as we hear threats of certain worlds and races leaving the Federation, they must have some sort of representative body to fall behind. I always assumed they were like American states and the Federation was the Union. The Maquis are obviously the Confederacy.

Ha, I really want a solid take on the Stre/k/ RPG but I keep getting bogged down in mechanics. I'm watching thru TOS and trying to get something that captures that feel inside a roman legion like command structure. The federation is the human empire actually commanding thousands of worlds and working on a population of a quintillion, with literally billion and billions of people in Starfleet. The game would revolved arround the 'mostly peaceful exploration, diplomacy legion (the tenth Expeditionary force with the other legions 1-9 having their own jobs from sol system defence aka 1st legion to Station Engineering, Science, big honking space navies (4-7) and finally the logistics and expeditionary forces.

I really like the idea of a half strength legion (compard to the double strength 4-7) of 6000 ships of 1k people each just doing their best to categorize the wild world out there (and of course stripping the names and junk out of the IP as you go) before deciding which follow up legion should get it's hands on it (with all the politics that comes with that).

Basically make the terran empire but not fucking pants on head retarded or evil for the sake of being evil and see how it would actually function in the star trek universe.

Do you have any specific examples? I guess it's possible they would do this, following the same logic I've seen some of the LCARS panels from TNG at Star Trek: The Exhibition and they have little poems and shit in tiny font on the edges. They also had Q's judge chair which stank for some reason, maybe it had been stored in a damp warehouse.

I kind of like the new CG, but obviously it would be vile heresy if it outright *replaced* the original SFX Lucas-style, it's just cool to have it as an option.
