EDIT

8kun is semi-functional, but not yet optimal for regular use. For the time being, it's strongly advised that you join the meta thread on the smug bunker and discuss our options and plans.

EDIT

Normally we'd wait longer before a new Meta-Thread is made, but there is some minor good news. Due to repeated fuckups with 8chan, we've seen a lot of images turn into dead links. Combined with the rollback, the majority of images on /tg/ were lost even after we attempted to recover and we resorted to using youtube embeds to make things look a little less awful.

As it turns out, there is a potential fix for some images: If the same exact file of a lost image is posted in another thread on /tg/, the previously blanked image will return after a Shift+F5 refresh. This won't allow us to recover everything, like clipboard images, but it is a partial fix for threads that are still active and reliant on their images.

PLEASE READ

Welcome back to /tg/. It's taken some time just to get this site working long enough to allow me to login and confirm that I've retained BO status for this new copy of /tg/.

I'm so sorry that I failed to set up any kind of official bunker which led to many of you being scattered to the wind without a board to call home. For the past two months, a small handful of fa/tg/uys have been comfortably setup on the smugloli bunker, where another /tg/ was made by the meido team. For any of you who want a stable and trustworthy place to ride out these rough days until the problems with 8kun are ironed out, you can join the rest of us at http://smuglo.li/tg/

I have no plans of abandoning my post here or starting an unnecessary rivalry or drama between 8kun and the webring. However, the instability of 8kun makes it somewhere that we can't yet use like normal. Take the time to archive and backup any threads and content that you wanted to save and be patient. We waited 2 months, we can wait a little longer.

Anyone play any tabletop game based off the Wild West?

Discuss anything in relation to it such as cowboys, zombie wranglers, holstaurus, wendigos and things relating to North American mythology.

I've been looking through some games and I've been told about both Deadlands and Wild West Exodus but don't know much about them. I am interested in the cowboys setting.

Want to see if we can come together to make a system for the inevitability that every rpg company becomes pozzed.

We can start by making it a generic system that could reasonably work for fantasy, sci-fi, or other genres. We will call it G.E.R.P.S (Generic, Eight-chan, Role, Playing, System.)

>Why not in homebrew thread

Good question. Figured it would be more appropriate as its own thread as this would be a collaborative project rather than someone posting their campaign or house-rules.

>Why not G.U.R.P.S?

Also a good question. Tell you what if we just end up making GURPS, I'll owe you a coke. I'm mainly interested in seeing what we can come up with.

First place I think we could start would be the dice-engine and stats.

Endless Modifier System (EMS) the GM rolls D% to determine the difficulty of the task, then multiplies it by .5 up to 5x determined by the impossibility of the task with .5 being easy and 5x being nearly impossible.

Characters on the other hand roll 1d20 and multiiply by their endless skill modifiers. The characters skills can be either as broad or as defined as the player can think of, but only applicable skills can be used to increase the multiplier, but any applicable skills get used.

For example, say the character is shooting a pistol and the GM rolled a 70 (x2) on the opponents duck and cover roll. The character would need to beat a 140 in order to hit their opponent.

Say the character has 2 points in pistols, 1 point in short distance shooting, 1 point in custom weapons, 1 point in combat finesse, 2 points in firearms, and 1 point in behavior prediction that the GM rules all apply. The character would make their d20 roll and multiply it by 8. If the roll is greater than the 140 needed to hit their opponent, they succeed.

I've always been partial to 5d4 for otherwise-standard DnD char stats.

The occasional 20? Fine! because the system really loves 12. Maybe more than it should...

But if baked in a 'generic' system, then: should you forego a point-buy system, you must roll in front of an audience, and there are no re-rolls. Not even for the whole set of six.

A pair of fives, a six, an eight and a thirteen!

How the fuck do people run games successfully without constantly fucking things up? Maybe I am just too retarded. It seems like you need to be an epic level wizard to even approach it, yet I know literal autistic spergs who can do it like it's the easiest thing in the world. They're not good at it by any means, but they can make it happen without getting impossibly trapped in the minutiae.

Class specific experience awards in the DMG were a core rule in 2nd-ed, Nobody I ever gamed with used them. It was either DMs like me who doled XP the B/X style, or just doing XP for monsters and "story" awards.

Hey /tg/,

Looking to present you with an idea that I want to chew on with you.

I had a few ideas for some custom guard armies and eventually it turned into an entire planet with three distinct armies populating the surface. This bloomed into a whole loregasm as I cant help but overthink things.

If you would, listen to the story of a planet with no grand history save to its inhabitants. A planet located close to the Cicatrix Maladict established as a hushed inquisitorial and administratum joint operation. This experimental Bait World knows only secret war in defense of the larger Imperium. This world is only know by is simple, yet apt, name.

Dis.

So the measuring of difficulty of NPCs to fight against seems a bit vague, there are categories but not every quality is actually weighted in the way they imply they are and they even admit that NPC qualities aren't a science so what sort of enemies do you use for different character levels in your own games? Are there are specific ones you use for easy, challenging, or ball-busting encounters?

The guidelines given work fine for anything you'd pull out of the bestiary or rogues gallery, templates included. If I'm making bespoke NPCs...

>easy

Keep it simple, maybe a gimmick or two with stats very in line with the guidelines, not many NPC qualities.

>challenging

Actually build the characters to have few weaknesses, usually something that requires non-standard behavior, outside-the-box thinking. With these I'm going to compare stats and do some fuzzy math about how likely each side's attacks and other actions are to succeed. I want the numbers to make it so they won't win in a simple straight fight, that they have to either prepare and weaken them, go after some weakness, etc.

>or ball-busting

Build the NPC (or group) as a hard counter to the party, forcing them to use character abilities they neglect. Give them NPC qualities that can mill the party's resources (e.g. tough mills action dice and crits). Loads of natural attacks and the flurry ability is also painful.

The last thread's in autosage and these are a tradition at this point, so here's the new one. Feel free to add any drow related smut, as long as it's not something that belongs in /chaos/, because dicks do not belong on women.

So yeah it is rank and flank by design. Find me a cheap, reasonably length game time game thats a rank and flank. Just one.

If you like Bretonnians just buy Perry Hundred Years War miniatures, which is an era that some of the past ranges had been based on (maybe 5e? That was before my time). There's Fireforge too but frankly they aren't that great.

An untouchable crime boss has a massive safe door in his office wall. No one's ever tried for it, fearing retribution more than the difficulty of getting in. Better still if he hires the party for one unrelated job, so you can show rather than tell.

Non-factual statement. Furthermore, your specific clarification of pre-Sup I seems to be a misnomer, when considering that Sup I only adds to the complication and does nothing to simplify running the game - if anything, you get shit like the cursed item overflow to make things more of a mess.

People who can't figure out LBB don't have the creativity and intelligence required to run a fantasy campaign. You can content that it's obtuse and poorly formatted by modern standards, but to decry as "unplayable" is incorrect.

I don't know why people still haven't caught on to the fact that the rape and gratuitous nudity was an artifact of the manga designed to bait people into reading an otherwise average fantasy series. Light Novel was never terribly descriptive of any of it, and the manga had the most attention payed to it and then leveled off. The spinoffs are mostly the same way.

I'm aware of all that, this is criticism more than anything else. An all-female party going up against goblins carries certain expectations which are sadly not being met here.

But my point is Goblin Slayer isn't about lovingly depicting women in peril whenever they show up on the page, it's about a broken man accumulating a party of competent allies and managing to thwart threats far larger than his initial standings might suggest.

If you're upset there wasn't any sexy violence but keep showing up to the manga expecting it, you got played like a fiddle.
